MINING BUSINESS

CZP’s raw material base is represented by Nova Zinc – operator of Akzhal lead and zinc mine in Kazakhstan. The Akzhal mine is located at the Akzhal lead zinc deposit in central Kazakhsat (Shetskiy District, Karaganda Region, Akzhal)

The extraction of ores from Akzhal mine is currently conducted by open-pit mining operations. In 2008, Nova Zinc processed 1 330.5 tonnes of ore.

In 2008, the Company fulfilled all the obligations under licence agreement for exploration and mining of the Amurskoye zinc deposit in the Chelyabinsk Region, the first stage of geological exploration was completed at the Amurskoye deposit. The “Report on the Amurskoye zinc ore deposit exploration undertaken in 2007-2008 with reserve calculation as of October 1, 2008” was prepared. CZP commissioned SRK Exploration Services Ltd to undertake a provisional JORC complaint resource estimation on Amur deposit. According to SRK report the Project as it stands today and assuming that all inferred resources can be realised into ore reserve, is not economically feasible. In February 2009 due to cessation of the development of Amur mine, CZP has liquidated its subsidiary JSC GOK “Amur”.
